Where come from where to go?
Where am I from, where am I going?
Thoughts about pondering Tao
2007, 30th Oct, Night
There was a song from the 80s show, “Journey to the West” - “Where is my way?” , “The way is under your feet”.
Vincent van Gogh once said, “Where am I from, where am I going.”
Chinese art; artistic China. Stemming from the interaction between oriental and western culture, amidst the growing appeal of China, we ask ourselves, where am I from, and where am I going?
“Pondering Tao” or “Reaching Tao” is to express your attitude, mood and frame of mind, with body language and sketching. It is pondering where to go in a state of meditation.
To ponder is to comprehend with the heart, to be awakened, to realize and to be clear.
Tao; to march forward; teaching tao, filial tao, virtue tao, to walk steadily.
Do not be afraid and do not regret. At the end of the sinuous road comes a new continent.
I have been considering launching a painting exhibition but have yet to realize it because of too many trivial matters. Whenever I pass by authentic works of the many notable masters, I have the desire to do something great. In the recent years since I created the theme, “Pondering Tao”, many have came to my studio and took pictures as a remembrance.
They were Taoists, professors, bosses, associate chairmen, foreign scholars and artists. Talking about their lives, they all saw part of themselves in these paintings, and felt the scenes familiar. Some even pointed at the people in the painting, putting themselves in their positions. These moments of joy deserve to be reminisced.
Hereby I appreciate their approval and encouragement. This is an art: To make meaning out of the mundane, to gain experience from pondering. Today I have compiled them into a book for your discussion and enjoyment.
